Every physician has a journey. Mine has been shaped by decades of listening, learning, and caring for people through every stage of life.
For more than 30 years, I have had the privilege of practicing medicine in San Diego and caring for individuals and families through every stage of life. My path began in internal medicine after earning my medical degree at Case Western Reserve University and completing my residency at UC San Diego School of Medicine, where I built a strong foundation in evidence-based clinical care.
Over time, my work expanded beyond traditional primary care. I spent 17 years at Scripps Health, served as an integrative palliative care specialist, and later worked within integrative medical teams focused on cardiovascular disease reversal and lifestyle-based healing. I also had the honor of serving as medical director for prevention and wellness programs, including the Dean Ornish Program for Reversing Heart Disease, as well as participating in medical missions that brought care to underserved communities.
Throughout all of these experiences, one truth became increasingly clear. The most powerful medicine happens when patients are truly seen, heard, and understood. Healing is not only about treating disease. It is about understanding the whole person, including their lifestyle, stress, relationships, purpose, and long-term health goals.
After decades within larger healthcare systems, I made the decision to create my own practice, Mark Kalina PC. I did this to return to the kind of medicine I believe in most. A model rooted in prevention, connection, and time. A practice where care is personal, thoughtful, and deeply individualized, and where every patient has the space to be fully heard.
Today, my mission is simple. To help people move beyond illness and into lasting health, vitality, and longevity. To support not only longer life, but a better life, one built on clarity, energy, resilience, and meaning.
